Former Child Star

I am currently writing a comic book script that I hope will go places. It is a one shot and I am spending a lot of time to make it the best possible story i can make it.

Soon after I finish that, i may actually write a short four or five page comic script that I will illustrate myself. It will take place over the course of one evening after a former child star gets off of his dull, dead end job. He reflects on his past as well as his future.

It is a story of reflection, despair and how the thing you wanted most in your life was probably not the best possible solution. It's about making choices, telling truths about yourself and dealing with a world that does not see you as special anymore.

I am really excited about writing this and because it is going to be short, it will be easy to edit and tweak and perfect. Visually, i see the art in my head. I see it as thin black cross hatching. Very dark, very moody. It will have that private eye noir, walking in the rain, voice over feel to it.

I am really fired up on it and my ultimate goal is to submit it to Image Comics and hope it is good enough to make it in a future issue of POPGUN!

Grab Your Headphones and Listen to This Guy

Last Saturday I was working at, the always entertaining, Beach Ball Comic book store in Anaheim. All kind of colorful characters show up there on Saturdays, but none of them compare to the dude that walked into the store this past week. He walked in wearing what looked like Civil War Gear. He was wearing a tan Confederate Soldier cap, a Fonzie leather jacket and had tan messenger pouch slung over his shoulder. He had a very large white mustache and kept his reading spectacles dangling from his mouth. He came up to the counter, took the glasses out of his mouth and began to talk.

So, he starts talking about new Enterprise in the upcoming JJ Abrams's Star Trek Film as well as Quantum Physics . I grabbed my phone and hit the record function, because i knew that i would not be able to do this guy justice by merely decribing him.
"Oh, he blinks! does he beep?" This is the moment when he gets distracted by the 1:1 Scale R2-D2 in the shop.

He Continues thumbing through a copy of Toyfare Magazine looking for an example of the new Star Trek Enterprise.
As you can tell, he has a number of Tribbles.

He then goes through the Star Trek toys and begins to talk about Scottie, then he walks away from me and talks to another customer who seemed interested in James Doohan.

After looking at a Suppressor on Harley Quinn's Revolver he goes on a mini rant on how that could not physically work and continues to trail off as he walks out the door on his way to El Pollo Loco.

and just like that, he was gone.

I spent 10 minutes with this man and got 4 pretty fun sound clips, just so I could listen to them later and know that this was for real. I think he is a Civil War soldier for the south that got teleported to our time, to tell us the true nature of Star Trek and Quantum Physics.

May his message be heard for generations to come!

PS- He totally reminded me of Keva Rosenberg from Robocop!

Catch Up!

During a text chat with Kirk, I realized that, as cool as my little GL Universe Corps updates are, I have not given you guys a reading list. If you want to catch up to Geoff Johns upcoming "Blackest Night" I am here to help. For some reason DC doesn't concern itself with letting you know what Volume Number you are reading, so here is the order in which to read the complete story.

Vol. 1 - Green Lantern: Rebirth
Vol. 2 - Green Lantern: No Fear
Vol. 3 - Green Lantern: Revenge of the Green Lanterns
Vol. 4 - Green Lantern: Wanted Hal Jordan
Vol. 5 - Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War vol. 1
Vol. 6 - Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War vol. 2
Vol. 7 - Green Lantern: Secret Origins
Vol. 8 - Green Lantern: Rage of the Red Lanterns (also contains the Alfa Lantern miniseries)
Vol. 9 - Green Lantern: Agent Orange
Vol. 10 - Blackest Night

There is also "Tales of the Sinestro Corps War" which talks about a lot of side stories from Sinestro Corps War but are unnecessary to the main story line.

Geoff Johns has mentioned that he has been working on this Blackest Night story line since Green Lantern issue 4 (which appears in "No Fear"). If you just want to enjoy Blackest Night, without forking out all the cash for Vol. 1-9, i would suggest that you use wikipedia to catch up to and through The Sinestro Corps story line, then start reading volume 7 (Secret Origins).

I think that I am going to start doing reviews of the upcoming GL Monthly issues in addition to continuing my Corps Biographies. Let me know what you guys think.

Watchmen - Review

I don't want to go on and on about Watchmen, but I have to tell you that I was really impressed. I have not read the book, but I think that helped my viewing. My only gripe with the film was that there was little character development for Ozymandias. I would have loved to see his back story a bit more as well as showing him interact with the Watchmen during their heyday. Rorschach was cool. He was like a super over the top version of Batman. I think of all of the characters, Nite Owl was my favorite. He is the one guy in this movie that is good and willing to right the injustices in the world for the sake of humanity. He is a good guy who just wants to help those who can't help themselves. He is the Bob Parr of the Watchmen world and is reliving the glory days, not for revenge or personal gain. He does it because he is a symbol of the past. I like that he even gets the girl. This movie was really entertaining and i am looking forward to seeing it again. I am not rushing out to go read the book, but i am really excited to see the extended cut.
